Yes. As a registered charity Abbeyfield Saskatoon can provide a charitable receipt for donations it receives.
The operating costs of Abbeyfield House Saskatoon relies on tenant rent, and if required, supported by additional funding from the charity, Abbeyfield Houses Society of Saskatoon Inc. As a charitable organization, we seek to obtain considerable donations to assist us in keeping the House in good repair and meeting the challenges that come with running a large household.
Suites are all bachelor-style suites. Our suites have enough room for a single or double bed, a comfortable chair, dresser, tv, and small fridge. Our ensuite bathrooms are quite roomy and all are wheelchair accessible.
Monthly rent includes meals, utilities, cable TV, internet, and parking, if required. Private telephones or cellphones are the responsibility of each individual tenant.
Yes. We have a guest suite located on our lower level accessible by an elevator if required. Our suite has two (2) single beds and is available on a per-night rental basis. Meals are provided at an additional cost.
Yes, off-street parking is available. Tenants who choose to access electric plugs during the winter months are charged a fee from November to March inclusive.
Yes. Each tenant is provided with a locked storage area that is 4′ by 5′ located in the lower level of the house.
Tenants are permitted a small fridge and a microwave, however, no stoves or burners are permitted.
Abbeyfield Saskatoon has a wonderful event space located on the lower level. This space is accessible by elevator for those who prefer not to use the stairs. We have enough tables, chairs and space to accommodate approximately 40 people. We have washrooms available for our guests to use and we can provide access to a large kitchen with a fridge and stove. Abbeyfield House Saskatoon has the atmosphere of a family home because it only has ten occupants and is located in a residential neighbourhood.
You would have the privacy, dignity and freedom needed to continue leading a normal life, but you would also be in a secure environment, with the companionship of others.
If you are over the age of 60, and can live independently, we encourage you to consider applying. Some applicants may be asked to go on a waiting list if no immediate vacancy is available.
Independent living at Abbeyfield House Saskatoon means you need minimal assistance with day-to-day activities like getting dressed, bathing, eating, and taking medications. If you need a little assistance temporarily while recovering from an illness or injury, it is your responsibility to make the necessary arrangements.
As a resident, you have the freedom to set your own schedule, come and go as you please, and invite friends and family over for a visit.
Each applicant must designate a trusted relative, friend, or professional advisor who will be contacted and consulted in the case of an emergency or as issues requiring decisions arise. If you can no longer look after yourself at Abbeyfield, other arrangments will have to be made by you with the help of your sponsor. No financial involvement is required on the sponsor’s part.
No, each occupant is responsible for their own room and laundry, but cleaning supplies and laundry facilities are available.
No pets are allowed to live with the tenants.
Tenants are responsible for making their own breakfast. Lunch and dinner are prepared daily.
If you enjoy cooking or gardening (or any other activities), you may have the opportunity to engage in them.
While Abbeyfield House Saskatoon does not provide nursing care, a visiting nurse may be able to address your needs. If you can no longer look after yourself at Abbeyfield, other arrangements will have to be made by you with the help of your sponsor.
Abbeyfield House Saskatoon has a guest room that would allow you to try out the lifestyle before you move. Abbeyfield encourages applicants to keep their former housing arrangements available until they feel settled.
Often another plate can easily be added to the table.
